Legal Specialisms

  • Wills - A Will is a document which sets out your wishes when you pass away, this is a vitally important legal document and Becci will talk through the necessary requirements in order to make a valid Will.

  • Powers of Attorney - These are two separate documents, dealing with property and finance, and health and welfare. They appoint a person or persons to act on your behalf over these decisions if the time arose during your lifetime.

  • Administration of Estate - When a person passes away, their estate or assets and liabilities need to be administered. Whether there is a Will appointing an executor or there is no Will and you are acting as administrator, I can assist in the administration process to make sure all aspects are dealt with correctly.

  • Deed Of Variation - It may be beneficial to a beneficiary to vary the terms of a Will, either to better plan for inheritance tax or if they do not wish to receive a gift for other reasons. So as not to risk them having to pay tax on their estate if they were to pass away within 7 years of making a gift personally, they could vary the terms of the Will or intestacy provisions to adapt to the preferred circumstances.

  • Inheritance Tax Planning - If you are concerned about the possibility of inheritance tax on your estate I can help to explain the allowances which will be attributable to your estate after you pass away. Once these are established, if further planning is required I can talk you through options which may be available to you.

Legal Expertise in Practice

  • Will - My clients both had children from previous relationships and they wanted to make sure both their spouse and those children were protected and cared for by their Wills. I talked them through options and explained the process and they felt confident their Wills covered all areas of concern prior to signing.

  • Lasting Powers of Attorney - My client required assistance urgently as she was struggling to get out and about. Unfortunately the delays at the Office of the Public Guardian meant she would have been waiting for some 6 months for the assistance she required. So my advise was to use a General Power of Attorney in the interim, my client was so happy to know that there was something could be done to help her immediately.

  • Deed of Variation - My client sadly lost her husband and his estate passed completely to her. She wanted to manage her estate and decided to gift her late husbands half share to another person. She was unable to leave her house and so required a home visit, I visited her property twice to take instruction and to sign as this was most convenient for her.

  • Grant of Probate Application - Mr client’s mother passed away and her estate was very straight-forward, but sizeable so inheritance tax was payable. This makes for a more complicated application for Grant of Probate and so my client instructed me to obtain this only, she then dealt with the remaining administration herself.
